Perfecting Your Smile With M Dental
As cosmetic dentists we hear a lot of new patients report to us that they don’t have the confidence to smile. Largely because they feel they have a tooth or gum abnormality which becomes visible when they smile. Some have chipped teeth, others have missing teeth, misaligned teeth and discoloured teeth just to name a few.
Here at M Dental we have a wealth of experience in helping people perfect their smile. After all M Dental is the home of the Smile Makeover. Some of our most popular treatment options are Composite Bonding and Veneers. Veneers tend to be more well known outside of the dental industry - we often hear about celebrities undergoing veneer treatment, but what about composite bonding as a treatment option?
What Are Veneers?
Firstly let's start with what Veneers are. They are a tooth covering designed to improve the appearance of your teeth. All veneers are custom made from porcelain or composite resin and are a thin shell which is attached to the teeth requiring correction.
Once fitted they are able to transform teeth and blend in with your natural teeth. Typically used for a multitude of dental issues including stained, cracked and even misshapen teeth. With advances in technology veneers can be a great option for those wishing to transfer their smile. The material used in veneers are high quality and durable and provide a long-lasting option.
What is Composite Bonding?
Composite bonding is a treatment used for much the same reason as veneers, albeit usually more minor imperfections. It involves a tooth coloured resin being applied to teeth to give a more aesthetically pleasing tooth. The resin is applied directly to the surface of the teeth and then carefully moulded to match your natural colour and surrounding teeth. Thereafter the resin is set with the use of a specialist dental light to transform a smile.
The resin used in composite bonding is a versatile substance. This means it can be used to create a seamless match to existing teeth and moulded to create fantastic results.
The procedure used for composite bonding is minimally invasive but with maximum impact. Treatments can be completed in just one visit!
Which Option to Choose: Composite Bonding or Veneers
Like with all treatment options it will depend on the degree of change needed along with consideration of your lifestyle. But below is a few things to bear in mind:
Veneers can last up to 15 years with the right dental routine. Whereas composite bonding typically has a lesser lifespan of around 5-7 years with the right care.
Veneers will typically be more expensive than composite bonding.
Veneers cannot be fitted in one appointment. Typically multiple visits are required for assessment, measurement and application. This is in contrast to composite bonding which can often be completed in one visit.
Veneers are often known to be more durable and are considered more stain resistant than composite bonding. Making veneers a better option for coffee drinkers.
Composite bonding is considered less invasive.
Both options however are capable of creating a beautiful smile to be proud of.
When deciding on an option, in conjunction with your dentist, elements such as degree of imperfection, budget, lifestyle, maintenance and lifestyle are all important elements to consider.
